Where Teaching Meets Technology

Have A Great Week Off!

I hope everyone enjoys their week off.  Here is a little something to make you laugh.

Family Sharing

For my first post I thought something that could save you money would be a good place to start.  Some teachers have expressed concerns about spending their own money on apps for their teacher iPad.  Well, there is a way around that – and it does not involve begging your principal for money.

Apple offers something called family sharing.  You can link different apple IDs together and then share apps between them.  For example I have a personal apple ID and a school one.  I invited my school ID to be a part of my family.  Now whatever I purchase with my personal ID, I can download, for free, with my school ID.

Just be sure you are using your @madison.k12.ct.us as your apple ID.  The school Google email  @madisonps.org id does not allow outside emails (garden wall) to get through and therefore limits its usefulness on your teacher iPad.  If you have the other address, it can be changed.

You can also use family sharing in your personal life.  My kids are excited because they can now download the apps, movies, and music that I purchased. I like it because I can control what they want to download. :). A win for everyone.

The only caveat is you need to be using at least iOS8; It’s an easy download though.
